Dr. Louis Perron

Dr. Louis Perron is a political scientist and consultant who has advised two presidents, a vice president, two cabinet members, five senators, three big city mayors and a former Miss Universe. During the past years, he has worked in six countries and has won more than 15 competitive election campaigns, including three nationwide ones.

In his home country, Switzerland, Louis has advised political parties and candidates in all three linguistic areas. Among his clients also figure some of the country’s biggest companies (Coop, Swisscom, SBB) and interest groups (Economiesuisse, Syna, Unia, WWF). Louis mainly works with new campaign tools such as message and strategy development, opposition research, grassroots campaigning, customized political surveys and strategic focus group discussions.

When working abroad, Louis has shown that he can perform under circumstances that are culturally, logistically and financially challenging. Clients are from Germany, Romania, the United Kingdom and several Asian countries. Key to the success is that he does not only copy U.S. and European campaign tools, but spends the time necessary to effectively adapt them to the local political culture. Before running his own consulting business, Louis worked for one of the leading U.S. political consultants, Mark Mellman of the Mellman Group in Washington D.C.

In addition to his practical experience and track record, Louis also has a specialized academic background in the area of political marketing and political communication. Louis earned a PhD in political science at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. The purpose of his PhD was to compare election campaigns in the USA, Germany, Brazil and the Philippines. He further holds a Masters degree from the Graduate School of Political Management, The George Washington University in Washington D.C., USA. For his bachelor, he studied political science in Geneva, Switzerland, and in Aix-en-Provence, France. As a result, he speaks fluent English, German and French. As part of his academic work, Louis is currently teaching a class in political marketing at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. He also used to teach two elective classes at De La Salle University’s Graduate School of Business in Manila, Philippines.

He is the author of a newly published book, How to Overcome the Power of Incumbency in Election Campaigns. His knowledge about political communication has led to publications in several academic books (Routledge Handbook of Political Management) and trade journals (Campaigns & Elections, Politik + Kommunikation, Zeitschrift für Politikberatung). He frequently commentates on campaigns and elections in Swiss and foreign media including on CNBC and Bloomberg Television. His analyses have been published in media outlets in the USA, the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Ecuador and the Philippines.
